“Pursue your priorities, purpose, and dreams. That is how you connect money to your life and values .”

Dan Joss is a seasoned Financial Life Planning professional. Dan Joss is among a small force of Life Planners, less than 200 in the U.S. and only a few dozen in the mid-Atlantic area. Dan founded Joss Financial in 2015, and now, in 2020, has joined with Katherine Brown to create Joss Brown Wealth Advisors. Their shared vision and faith along with combined talents and experiences will further enhance their clients' Life Plans.

Dan excels at asking poignant questions to determine what inspires and motivates his clients.  These initial planning sessions will be introspective and challenging. Long-time clients give testimony that one must think deeply in terms of their own personal values and ask questions like:

“If you had more time or money, what would you do?”

“What do you want to accomplish or attain so you will feel that you’ve had a life well-lived?”

“What moves, touches, or inspires you?”

Dan’s approach to financial planning: "living what matters" was born of his own life experiences.  Originally from Seattle, Washington, Dan is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he studied Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and Finance. In 1988 he was commissioned in the US Army, later earning his Ranger Tab and Master Parachutist.  In 1999, Dan earned a Master of Business Administration with emphasis in Financial Planning from Regent University while still on active duty.  His CFP® designation was awarded in 2003, and he earned his Registered Life Planning (RLP®) designation from the Kinder Institute of Life Planning in 2009.

Before moving to Hampton Roads, Dan co-founded and partnered in a wealth management firm in Northern Virginia where he helped high-net-worth clients maximize their financial resources to achieve their life goals.  Whether it was portfolio management, maximizing after-tax returns, real estate opportunities, inter-generational wealth transfer, or a host of other unique financial issues, Dan has reaped a wide range of real-world experiences that lend greatly to helping clients achieve fulfillment. Northern Virginia Magazine and the Washingtonian have even recognized Dan as a "Top Financial Planner" over the years.  He has been quoted in local print and online publications, with clients volunteering to tell their personal financial stories to national publications like Smart Money and Kiplinger's.

“I am committed to helping clients develop intentional road-maps to a life of fulfillment by using their wealth and talents for that purpose.”

During Dan's tenure in NoVA, he created and implemented a Life Plan for his own family.  It was this major lifestyle change that prompted his book, "10,080 Minutes" where he shares how he became laser-focused on his faith, his family, and creating the time to enjoy both. These epiphanies led Dan to Hampton Roads, where today he invests his time with his wife and family, living life focused on what matters most. When Dan is not working with clients, he enjoys consistently taking his family to church and devoting time daily to reading the Bible. Otherwise, he is on the golf course, taking walks in Colonial Williamsburg, or planning short getaways with his family.
