This fall, our team member Phillip Saunders, CFP®, visited New York, New York to deepen his understanding of real estate investing for our client portfolios. Phillip organizes our firm's monthly investment committee meetings, which involve both research and communication with fund managers at various companies. In New York, he met with the team at Cohen & Steers, who specialize in real estate investments. Did you know that most REITs, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and Mutual Funds that invest in real estate typically do not purchase residential homes? Instead, they focus on less conventional assets like cell phone towers, office building complexes, data centers, and hospitals. Hard assets such as real estate and commodities can be an effective strategy to hedge against inflation erosion in a portfolio.

On his trip, he was taken aback by the calm atmosphere of the trading floor at the New York Stock Exchange, due to technology automating numerous processes. While many consider AI and technology as substitutes for human employment, our years of experience have demonstrated that traditional in-person communication continues to be vital for success. We consider success to be assisting families in reaching their financial planning objectives during retirement and for future generations.
